On June 20, 2024, the website of the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry announced that Australia has changed the import conditions for honey, beehive, propolis, and royal jelly entering Western Australia. The main contents include:
(1) Some bee products, such as honey packaged separately in units not exceeding 150ml (whether or not containing beehives) or powdered honey packaged separately in units not exceeding 35g, are not subject to import restrictions and are cleared through specific channels, such as honey, propolis, royal jelly, and honey used as non principal ingredients for human consumption or cosmetics. Import of bee pollen and bee pollen requires a license;
(2) Before arrival, there is no need for an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, but the goods must meet the following requirements: from areas without European larval rot disease, or undergo specific processing to eliminate Bee Bee Clostridium, or pass relevant tests without Bee Bee Clostridium. Corresponding content needs to be provided on the health certificate and manufacturer's declaration;
(3) After arrival, there is no valid manufacturer's declaration that the goods will be inspected. Goods and derivatives are prohibited from being used for various purposes such as animal consumption and aquaculture;
(4) Each batch of goods must provide identification documents, imported goods, descriptions of goods, and may incur fees. Non commodity issues need to be evaluated, importers must comply with relevant regulations, and certain food imports require specific certificates.
